Danny DeVito and his former Taxi co-star, Carol Kane, are finally showing off their comedy chops with each other again.
Entertainment Weekly reported that the Season 17 finale of It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia, which premiered on August 20, shows DeVito's character, Frank Reynolds, trying to find love on The Golden Bachelor. Kane played one of the show's contestants, Samantha. The characters, however, don't immediately connect.
"You're kiddin' me. This cretin is the Bachelor? I got better lookin' boils," says Samantha during their first interaction.
Frank is impressed with her insult and states she's "pretty funny." Despite having a good time together, however, Frank is still torn between other romantic prospects on the show. Eventually, Frank decides that Samantha is the one for him.
"I didn't let you go because i didn't like you. I got rid of you because I like you too much, and it scared the s--t outta me. I'm just like you, Samantha. But together, we don't have to be afraid. Would you accept this rose and be my wife?" says Frank during the episode. Samantha agrees to Frank's marriage proposal.
As previously mentioned, this is not the first time DeVito and Kane have been scene partners on a sitcom. The actors were co-stars on the popular comedy Taxi, which ran from 1978 to 1983. DeVito made audiences laugh with his portrayal of Louie De Palma, while Kane was a scene-stealer as Simka Gravas.
While speaking to The Hollywood Reporter in August 2025, one of the show's executive producers, Charlie Day, who plays Charlie Kelly, said he believes Kane will appear in the show's 18th and possibly final season.
“I am sure we will write [Kane] into next season as well. She seemed to have a lot of fun, so I would assume she would come back and do it, which would be great," said Day to the publication.
During the Hollywood Reporter interview, DeVito also shared his thoughts about Kane's character being Frank's love interest in future episodes.
"I am way down with that. I mean, you get up there in age, it’s nice to have a steady girlfriend," said the actor.
