Country music history was made this weekend when George Strait's exclusive benefit concert delivered unforgettable performances — and a surprise appearance from one music icon.
The "Strait to the Heart" event at Estancia at Thunder Valley raised funds for Texas flood victims while treating fans to a legendary night that quickly went viral on social media.
The 73-year-old country star, who officially retired from touring in 2014, made a rare public appearance to headline the event.
With only 1,000 tickets available, reportedly starting at $1,000 each, the intimate venue in Boerne, Texas, raised significant funds with every dollar going directly to families devastated by the July 4th floods.
For fans of "The King of Country," this performance marked one of Strait's few annual appearances since stepping back from regular touring.
Midway through the show, the evening took an unexpected turn when Garth Brooks made an unannounced appearance on stage. It was the first time the two country music icons had reunited since the 2013 Academy Country Awards.
The 63-year-old superstar wasn't listed among the official performers, making his surprise set all the more special. Brooks reportedly delivered emotional renditions of his biggest hits, including, "Much Too Young (To Feel This Damn Old)" and "The Dance."
Videos of his surprise performance quickly went viral on Facebook, with concertgoers sharing clips of the tribute.
While Brooks was not one of the announced special guests, his act was just one of the many highlights. The benefit concert featured an impressive roster of country music talent, including William Beckmann, Ray Benson, Wade Bowen, Dean Dillon, Riley Green, Randy Houser, Jamey Johnson, Kyle Park and Hudson Westbrook.
The benefit show comes in response to the catastrophic flooding that struck Texas Hill Country earlier this month. The natural disaster claimed the lives of more than 130 people, with several others still reported missing.
Since retiring from regular touring in 2014, Strait has been highly selective about his live appearances. The country legend typically performs only a handful of shows each year, making this benefit concert particularly significant.
