Pittsburgh Pirates star pitcher Paul Skenes has been getting tight with the groundskeepers at his home ballpark

He reportedly told one beat reporter that he wants to "cut grass professionally" after he's done playing
Maybe the secret to Paul Skenes' fastball is his green thumb.
The Pittsburgh Pirates star pitcher was spotted inspecting the groundskeepers work before a game against the St. Louis Cardinals on Tuesday, July 1, in a photo posted to X.
Noah Hiles, a reporter for The Pittsburgh Post Gazette posted on X that Skenes, 23, "was out there because he was bored."
Hiles added that Skenes, who pitched five shutout innings later that day at PNC Park, "would love to cut grass professionally whenever his baseball days are over."

In preparation for his post-baseball life, Skenes seems to be tending to his relationship with the Pittsburgh groundskeepers. Per Hiles, Skenes was "chopping it up with the boys for a good 15-20 minutes."
Catching attention for his pregame antics seems to be something of a July tradition for Skenes, who went viral last July for his intricate and eclectic pre-pitch warm ups that included throwing a football, using resistance bands and wearing an inflatable tube strapped to his back.
Skenes, who was drafted first in the 2023 MLB Draft by the Pittsburgh Pirates and was promoted to the Major League at the start of last season, is having a tremendous year and was ranked first in MLB.com's June Cy Young Award poll.
The right hander for the Pirates, who is predicted to be a starting pitcher at the MLB All-Star game in Atlanta on July 15, has another claim to fame outside of baseball.
Skenes is dating former-gymnast and influencer, Livvy Dunne, who he met in his one season pitching for the Louisiana State University Tigers in 2023.
Dunne, 22, an athlete in her own right, was a star gymnast at LSU and influencer.

Counting millions of followers on her TikTok and Instagram accounts, Dunne finished her time with the Tigers boasting a $3.9 million NIL value from sponsorships.
In an exclusive interview with PEOPLE in June, Dunne said that in her post-college athletics life, she is "trying to go to as many baseball games as I can."
"I really just enjoy watching him [Skenes] and he's always on the go." Plus, she added: "I am rating hot dogs at every stadium I go to."
While she's living the baseball WAG life now in support of Skenes, she may have a new title in a few years: lawn care WAG.
