Teen Mom star Jenelle Evans addressed a heated text exchange that her son Jace shared online this week
In a statement shared on social media, she said, “Like any parent, I set rules and boundaries, and sometimes that isn’t easy. Jace posting our private texts was his reaction to being rightfully disciplined"

Jenelle Evans is speaking out after her son Jace leaked their text messages and accused her of mistreating him.
On Tuesday, Aug. 19, the Teen Mom star, 33, shared a post on her Instagram Stories to explain that she was disciplining her 16-year-old son — whom she shares with ex Andrew Lewis — in their heated text exchange, which was posted and subsequently removed from Jace's Instagram page.
“My children are my whole world, and everything I do is to try and protect, guide and love them,” she began her statement. “Like any parent, I set rules and boundaries, and sometimes that isn’t easy. Jace posting our private texts was his reaction to being rightfully disciplined.”
Despite feeling hurt that he posted the private messages, she said, “I know it comes from a place of struggle.”

“Navigating Jace’s different medical diagnoses has not been easy,” she continued, “but I have never stopped fighting to make sure he has the resources, love and support he needs.”
Her eldest child was diagnosed with several mental health disorders, including ADHD, major depressive disorder and oppositional defiant disorder, according to E! News.
She added, “I will always stand by him no matter what challenges come our way.”
“I will continue to work on being the best mom I can be to all three of my kids,” Evans wrote. “I ask for empathy, kindness and prayers during this time not just for me but for Jace and our family as we work through this together.”

In a second post, Evans alleged that Jace had “also been in trouble with the law these past few months.”
She said that Jace was “having a hard time adjusting to the rules set before him.”
“I’ve been trying everyday to help him navigate it but we are butting heads,” the Teen Mom alum wrote. “Please give us grace at this time, this is hard on all of us.”
E! noted that Jace said that the since-deleted screenshots were meant to highlight that Evans was "unstable."
A screenshot of one exchange obtained by TMZ showed that Evans allegedly wrote, "[You're] the one saying you're going to have my custody taken. F--- YOU."
"You won't get a damn thing from me anymore including a phone," she continued.
Her heated response came after Jace said that he cared about " [his] health and [his] living situation," adding, “I don’t need you you don’t need me and I don’t understand why you’re doing this because I’m telling the truth."
"Ur crazy," he added.

Sharing the same statement with TMZ that was posted on her Instagram Stories, Evans reiterated that the exchange was taken out of context.
Earlier this month, Evans celebrated Jace’s 16th birthday with a tribute on Instagram.
“To the young man that made me a mother 😭🎉🎂 #HappyBirthday Jace, 16 years young!" she wrote alongside pictures of the pair going on a helicopter trip and dining at a restaurant.
"You’re the most ambitious and caring boy I know. Seeing you get through trials and tribulations of life and still come out on top makes me so proud! ❤️,” she added.
The post came after Evans confirmed to PEOPLE in July that Jace was now living with her and his siblings in North Carolina after spending time living with his father in Florida.
“He's doing good, he's back at home, he's not living with his father,” she said at the time. “He’ll be starting 11th grade. And he's just been, you know, he's been getting into skateboarding recently, so that's his thing."
Evans, a mom of three, also shares son Kaiser Orion, 11, with ex Nathan Griffith and daughter Ensley Jolie, 8, with ex-husband, David Eason.
PEOPLE reached out to Evans for an additional comment but has not heard back at the time of publishing.
