She was later sued by the show's doctor after she accused one of the trainers of supplying her with drugs

However, in Netflix's 2025 documentary Fit for TV she said her accusations were taken out of context

Joelle Gwynn didn’t walk away with The Biggest Loser title, but she delivered some of the most unforgettable moments in the show’s history.

Her heated arguments with trainer Bob Harper and her rocky partnership with teammate Carla Triplett made her stand out during season 7. Over 15 years later, Gwynn returned to the spotlight to discuss it all in Netflix’s 2025 documentary Fit for TV: The Reality of The Biggest Loser.

“The Biggest Loser was indeed a television show, but I looked at it differently,” she said in the documentary, noting that she applied after being diagnosed with type 2 diabetes. “It wasn’t entertainment, but inspiration.”

Though she noted that her family was concerned about her wellness and safety when she agreed to be on the show, she was “willing to take the risk.” That risk involved burning a minimum of 6,000 calories a day doing workouts that she said left her with bruises and a painful lower back injury so severe she “could barely walk.”

So, where is Joelle Gwynn now? Here’s everything to know about the former Biggest Loser contestant’s life 15 years after her time on the competition series.

She has not shared an update on her weight

During her time on The Biggest Loser, Gwynn dropped 31 lbs. from her starting weight of 309 lbs., before she was voted off after a zero-pound loss in week 5. Months later, she revealed that she had lost an additional 57 lbs. after the show.

Though she hasn’t given a public update on her weight since, Gwynn did reveal on Fit for TV that she was on Ozempic. “I have never seen any intervention work as effectively as this,” she said. “It gets rid of food noise.”

Season 7 required contestants to compete in pairs, and Gwynn invited Triplett to audition alongside her. “I thought she was just a dynamic, gorgeous woman,” Gwynn recalled in Fit for TV, adding that producers liked the tension the two showed in their audition tape.

That tension carried into the competition, where the pair clashed and their partnership unraveled after Gwynn’s zero-loss week. While Triplett later said she still considered them friends, Gwynn disagreed.

“Carla and I were actually more acquaintances,” she told PEOPLE in 2016, noting that labeling themselves “best friends” was mainly for marketing.

“I didn’t want to come on the show and do drama,” she said. “There were some things that were said publicly that were hurtful, but sometimes relationships are rocky like that. The end result is that we benefited so much: we’ve gotten rid of high blood pressure, diabetes. There are victories here.”

She alleged that The Biggest Loser contestants were given drugs

In a May 2016 interview with the NY Post, Gwynn alleged that Harper’s assistant supplied her with drugs while filming The Biggest Loser.

“He’s got this brown paper bag that’s bundled up,” she said. “He says, ‘Take this drug, it’ll really help you.’ It was yellow and black. I was like, ‘What the f--- is this?’ I felt jittery and hyper.”

Gwynn claimed that the following day, Robert Huizenga, a doctor on The Biggest Loser, gave the contestants “some lame explanation” of why the pills were added to their regimen and said it was up to them to take them. Harper denied the allegations, and Huizenga filed a libel lawsuit against the former contestant.

In Fit for TV, Gwynn said that she addressed several issues with the show to the NY Post and that her allegations of drug use were “taken out of context.” Huzienga’s lawsuit was later dismissed.

Gwynn started vlogging about menopause in 2019

While she’s mostly remained private since her time on The Biggest Loser, Gwynn began sharing content about menopause on Instagram and YouTube in 2019. However, she hasn’t posted any updates since 2020.

“Although my body maybe aging it's not a bad thing,” she shared in one 2020 Instagram post. “I can be comfortable in the skin I am in and celebrate me. The voluptuous, extra curvy, plush golden me with a speckle of grey. It's all good.”

She still “does not care” for trainer Bob Harper

Fans of The Biggest Loser may remember the explosive workout clash between Gwynn and trainer Harper in 2009. After pushing his group to finish a treadmill run, Harper berated Gwynn for slowing down in the final seconds.

“Do not be sloppy. Finish this strong, Joelle,” he snapped in the clip. “What the f---, Joelle? Every single time at 20 seconds… Everyone goes for 30 seconds. You don’t come off for 30 seconds, okay?”

Gwynn fired back, “I’m not trying to quit!” and the exchange escalated into a shouting match. She later told Fit for TV that the moment was “very embarrassing” and reminded her of the verbal abuse she’d faced at home.

“I’ve never seen someone get abused like that,” she said in the documentary. “You cursing me out doesn’t help me … I do not care for Bob Harper. F--- you, Bob Harper.”

"It wasn't about the treadmill. It was — the picture was bigger than that. It was like her committing to something and finishing it," Harper said in the series. "It wasn't one of my proudest moments."
