Kathleen Turner made a rare red carpet appearance at the New York City premiere of The Roses on Monday, Aug. 25.

Turner, 71, wore a classic black frock and black sandals on the carpet.

The Roses, a remake of the 1989 film The War of the Roses, premiered at New York City's Hudson Theatre. Turner, 71, starred as Barbara Rose in the original film, which saw the breakdown of a wealthy Washington D.C. couple's marriage. Michael Douglas played her onscreen husband Oliver Rose, with Danny DeVito playing Oliver's divorce lawyer in the dark comedy film.

The Roses stars Olivia Colman and Benedict Cumberbatch in a new spin on the same story, examining how status and materialism impact interpersonal relationships. In this iteration, Colman, 51, plays Ivy Rose, a restaurateur, while Cumberbatch, 49, plays her husband, Theo Rose, a successful architect.

In honor of PEOPLE's 50th anniversary, Douglas, 80, recreated his iconic cover shoot with Turner. “I was actually quoting some [War of the Roses] lines to him as we lay there,” Turner said of the shoot in 2024.

Throughout the 1980s, Turner had a series of hits with Douglas, including Romancing the Stone, Jewel of the Nile and more.

In 2021, Turner opened up to PEOPLE exclusively about her chemistry with Douglas in Romancing the Stone.

"Oh, I was yearning, babe, but he was still married [to first wife Diandra Luker] ... although they were separated, and so I thought there was hope for me," she said at the time.

"It was that wonderful sexual tension, you know?" she continued. "When you really, really know you want somebody — and I'm saying it went both ways — and you can't have them. It's just lovely."

The Roses hits theaters on Friday, Aug. 29.
